About My Practice
I originally trained and practiced as a pediatrician for a number of years and then obtained a masters degree in psychology as I contemplated making the change from clinical medicine to psychiatry. This background has been invaluable in enabling me to work with patients in a way that is both thoughtful and practical.
My basic approach is to help patients achieve their goals for mental health by providing individualized care--drawing on the treatment models that will be the most useful to each person's situation. These include psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive behavioral, dialectic behavioral, and interpersonal therapies, as well as mindfulness. I integrate the use of medications when appropriate and clinically indicated. What this all means, simply, is that I help each patient find the best way to understand and work through their problems.
